WhatsApp Web, the browser version of the popular messaging app, has several advantages for those who spend many hours in front of the screen of a PC, but also some handicaps, first of all The impossibility of making and receiving audio calls and video calls.
To make use of these functions, the official app is in fact necessary, whether it is the one for smartphones and tablets or for desktop systems. But things will change, because WhatsApp is working on the official call support for its web version.
As reported by Wabetainfothe call function will present two distinct keys, for audio or video, and will be compatible with all the main browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari and others. In practice, we can start a call everywhere, without having to download the desktop app.
In spite of the distinct icons, it should be possible go from voice to video (and vice versa) on call started, obviously webcam permitting, that on a fixed PC for example it is not obvious.
WhatsApp is looking for in short standardize all its versionsoffering the same features on mobile, desktop and web. The calls were the last missing piece on browser and now they finally seem ready to become reality, as far as we do not know how far the development is and how much it will still be given to us to be released before.
If nothing else, this reiterates that the web version is very important for WhatsApp, or very usedor nobody would have taken the disturbance to implement a function that was however usable through the apps. We just hope we have not had to wait for a long time.
